• Full history: Relevant medical history. Discussion regarding your birth and postnatal care.

  • Feeding history: In-depth review of baby’s feeding to date, focusing on any areas you are concerned about.

  • Baby assessment: Physical and developmental assessment. If relevant baby can be weighed and a full tongue function assessment to look for restrictive tongue tie.

  • Observe feeding: Breastfeed/Bottle feed with advice given as indicated.

  • Review of any products you are using: Steriliser, bottles, breast pump, nipple shields.

  • Plan: A realistic plan that you are happy with and referrals to other professionals if indicated.

If baby is ready to feed, of course we follow their cues and we can discuss the other areas once baby is latched/feeding or settled.

Feeding support is best given in the area you will be feeding baby. Living room/bedroom etc.

All main caters for baby should be present if possible, this includes grandparents or nannies if they will be looking after baby for long periods of time.
